FINDING HOME
For some home is the family
And when the family's far away
One is homeless.
For some home is one's partner
And when the partner is distant
One is homeless.
For some home is simply being
And as being is never far away
One is never homeless...

SOME SCHOOLKIDS' THOUGHTS FOR APRIL SCHOOL HOLIDAY 2010
OUR TEACHER
Our teacher's name is Mr Scot
But we all call him Snotty
Because he never blows his nose
(He's a grotty, snotty scotty.)
Snot dribbles and then hangs there
Just like a stalagmite
And we know what's going to happen - yeah
It'll turn "BOGEY" overnight!
SCHOOL
School's a place where teachers make
Kid's lives a living hell.
For what we learn I think they earn
Too much pay as well!
HOME
Home is where I eat and sleep
And where devices which go beep
Full up the space between the hours
When we could all be outside smelling flowers!
PARENTS
Parents are people who mean well- but
They'd sound heaps better with their mouths tight shut
'Cos half of what they say is crap
And my world is full enough of that.

THE TEACHER
THE TEACHER (for Charles Causley)
Tweed-suited,
The teacher stood and waited.
Across the road
Behind curtains
Mother-drawn for privacy,
I would sneak-peek-
Then, seeing him
Would cross the road.
His gentle poet’s hand outstretched
Would guide me to the safer side.
Into a world of words
That coloured my life,
Infected my mind
And bled into a subconscious,
That would in turn,
bleed out
And form colours of their own
one day.
I was the clay, the empty canvas, the unwritten score.
He was the sculptor, the painter and composer.
He shaped my learning
For a future I could not for-see.
He was the teacher then,
As I am a teacher now.
He was the poet then,
As I am a poet now.
He was the tweed-suited teacher
Who stood and waited.
